My name is Matt Murphy and I began racing in 1997 at Hot Rod Hobbies in Saugus,
CA. As a 14 year old kid, with very poor equipment, I quickly learned how to go
fast with lesser equipment. I worked hard on chassis setup because I knew I
could not compete with the fast guys power. Results improved for me over the
first few years and I wanted to know all I could about going fast. In 1999,
Trinity released the Paradox Rebuildable Stock Motor, the first of its kind.
From then on, I tried about everything you can imagine, and even some things
you couldn’t imagine, trying to make power out of brushed motors. I got picked up on a 50%
sponsorship deal with a local motor company, which helped me get better than
average motors. Over the next few years, many racers turned to me to tweak
their Stock brushed motors, and most local guys turned to me at the bigger
races. This continued on till one day at the track, a buddy said “why don’t you start your own company?” And that’s just what I did!
July 2007 I started MurfDogg Motor Works. MurfDogg of course is a nickname I had
received because of my last name Murphy. At our first race, the 07 Hot Rod
Shootout, we TQ’ed and won both stock classes and 19 turn buggy, with a third in 19 turn truck.
Not a bad outing for two drivers and 4 motors at the track. 2 years and 21
National caliber race wins later, Including 4 R.O.A.R. National Championships,
MurfDogg Motor Works has become the leader in Stock Class Motors. Starting with
brushed motors and now switching to brushless, we are the leading edge of motor
technology, one motor at a time.
